Poetic Playfullness: The Difference Between Poets and Songwriters

I always have been a fan of poetry. Being a radio broadcasting student, I thought I would take some poetry and put behind some beats. Once completed, I realized it just doesn’t fit. The words didn’t fit the music. I hadn’t a clue why the music and poetry couldn’t get along.

It wasn’t until I listened to an interview on Q with the writer of the “The West Side Story” and many other successful plays, Stephen Sondheim he put it so elegantly when he said that poems don’t need music, because they are lyrically musical.

How Brilliant is that? I’ve decided to rework this and do what Will.I.am did, and take politicians speeches and make songs out of them. Stay tuned!

Do you agree that poems and songwriters work differently?

Linguists are Lazy

Last Christmas I recieved two tickets to go see The Goo Goo Dolls at the Hamilton Place. Upon further observation of the tickets, I realized they were row zero! How fantastic is that! I was quite excited.

The concert was last Friday, and my friend and I got to the Hamilton Place quite early. Waiting in the lobby for the doors open, we suddenly got worried. Two 18 year old dudes are not the normal fans of the Goo Goo Dolls. Possiable scenerios went through our heads. Are we going to be told sit down because we are much taller than 14 year old girls? Our worrying increased.

When the doors opened, we saw a little sign saying Rows U-Z this way. The rows weren’t in numbers, but letters! We weren’t in row Zero, but row O! We were 14 rows back! Relivied, we got to enjoy the concert more. And boy, what a good concert it was.
